Common Core


I have been a very busy person lately. The Common Core is on my mind much as it is on many educators. Many people have enjoyed training sessions provided by their district or from workshops. I find that these sessions result in one of two scenarios: a) I actually get this! I am superwoman! (aka...Knowledge empowered) or b) I feel like I knew less when I started out. (aka...Completely clueless). My general state of being at the time of my district's training sessions was overwhelmed from all the other stuff I needed to learn as a CF. You can imagine the scenario I ended up in......

Therefore, I have devoted quite a bit of time to reviewing the Common Core standards on my own. I wish I could say that I understand everything, but it feels very far from it at times. My main goal is just to get a grasp at how it will affect IEP goals. The only way I know how to do this is create a goal bank.

    1. I don't work with middle school students right now so that hasn't really been a focus of mine. I might try it once I get done with the Language & Reading components for the elementary grades, but I think someone who is used to working with that age group could probably do it better justice.

    1. I can certainly tell you about my experience with writing these goals. The aim of the entire project was to help me become more accustomed to the new curriculum and figure out how it would affect my role. Breaking down all the standards one by one while writing goals concurrently was the best way for me to gain confidence.

      As for contributing to your site, it's an honor to be asked and I enjoyed looking at it. I'm just afraid that I don't have the extra time it would take at the moment.

  3. I definitely understand how complex (and confusing) the new Common Core is. Last year I created a product for SLPs to address goals and align what we do with the Common Core. Entire districts are now using it (yay!) I would love to send you a (free) copy if you are interested in letting others know about it on your blog...
